for a long time, vidal benjamin has been getting up early at the weekends. whether alone or in company, he digs his hands into various crates at record fairs, flea markets or in empty attics, to uncover records that have long been forgotten, ignored or even despised. among the small circle of parisian diggers, his reputation precedes him: it is he who finds and it is he who shares. it is not unusual that in his wake, one finds a certain record long lost, left behind as a special gift from vidal. he likes to share so that others may discover. and it is for that same reason that he regularly sleeps late, playing records in clubs at night, where he follows a similar path: altruistic, educational and festive. it’s no surprise, then, that his first compilation goes by the fitting title of disco sympathie.

after his highly acclaimed sunset in kreuzberg ep, dib001 shifts gears and goes straight into techno mode: constantine is a steady number, its acid bass line slugging around a dark lfo pulse and punching snares. piano chords slow down the pace here and there, adding a dreamy touch to the mood. on remix duties, idriss drafts in gaetano parisio, the godfather of the italian techno scene: his track has a more percussive feel, with a classy swinging rhythm that takes over the original groove.

the opening track on this double sided gynltd series comes from hironori takahashi. speclaz displays sharp panned cymbals and sonics, underpinned by a pulsey rhythm and modulated organesque synths. the takaaki itoh remix is a deeper and more moody affair, albeit with a similar syncopated rhythm structure and some tasty modulated acidic synth stabs with filtered atmospherics. on the flip-side, myk derill s crossroads takes a turn for a more broken industrial rhythm with looped vocal chants holding it all together before breaking down into a washed out synth breakdown, then returning to the pre-emnent fat rhythm and vocalised stabs. finally track 4 sees philippe petit remix, with the artist opting for a very stripped back 4-4 hi-hats/percussive workout underpinning minimalistic modulated synth and gentle bassy offsets. the most tooled-up track of this ep.

for the third in its fifth anniversary release series, stroboscopic artefacts brings together tracks from xhin, tommy four seven, kangding ray and dsrcd. xhins blade moth, previously released digitally by meerestief, finds today new (and remastered) life on sa. it is deep and propulsive, with scattershot percussion reverberating around finely tuned kicks and sci-fi oscillations. the detailed sound design and experimental quirks are typical of the producer, they made for a stunning debut album on sa in 2011, and here elevate the functional 4x4 skeleton into a fantastically ethereal piece of dance music
